Iodine Essentials

Iodine is an essential element for human health yet most people are deficient. It is found in seafood including sea plants like kelp and bladderwrack. The body needs iodine for proper thyroid function. When thyroid is in balance the metabolism is also in balance. Proper levels of iodine promote healthy breast tissue in women. Breast tissue pain during the menstrual cycle or at any time is NOT normal. It has been labeled normal because it is so common. However the reason for this is most probably iodine deficiency. Breast tissue pain is a red flag that should not be ignored. One way to reduce or eliminate pain is to paint a few drops of Lugol’s iodine on the breasts. It is also essential for the woman to be nourished with iodine during pregnancy. When there is enough iodine, the baby is born with a higher level of intelligence and is overall healthier. Deficiency in iodine during pregnancy result in mental problems in children. However iodine is not only essential for women and babies, men need it too and it also helps with their IQ. When one is properly nourished with iodine and is living a healthy lifestyle, there is no fatigue and no brain fog.

Besides not eating food that contains iodine, people are deficient because of pollution. Chlorine and Bromine have a similar structure as iodine, therefore these elements take over the places in the body where iodine would need to be. Bromine is found in bread and other baked items. It is also found in fire retardant sprays on furniture that off-gas bromide. Most of the people are polluted with bromine/bromide. If someone has cherry angiomas on their skin, it is a sign of bromide toxicity. When a person begins to supplement with iodine (Lugol’s Iodine) they may get a bromide rash. As the iodine detoxes the bromide out of the body, it is often pushed out through the skin. It is important to start supplementing with iodine slowly to avoid any extreme and potentially harmful detox symptoms. A great resource is to read or listen to an audiobook called The Iodine Crisis By Lynn Farrow. Most libraries should have it, so you don’t necessarily need to buy it. Overall it is an informative book, and a nice addition to a home library if you enjoy collecting health promoting literature. A fun fact about iodine is that it was discovered by a French chemist who was extracting sodium salts and then discovered a beautiful violet purple vapor arising from seaweed ash.

Remember, Iodine is one of the most important minerals for the human body and most are deficient. Foods like kelp contain iodine. Mix 1 teaspoon of kelp powder with a little bit of room temperature water and drink that. Don’t trust that morton’s iodized salt and never use it. Informed doctors say it is heated to extremely high temperatures and all the benefits are destroyed. Plus iodine is volatile and evaporates from the salt. Another problem with taking iodine in food form is that it may not absorb. Majority of people have poor digestion due to improper food combining, artificial food consumption, alcohol, history of antibiotic use, overdosing on sugar and other high glycemic foods, and other abuses that people do to their body. With a disturbed digestive system, minerals and vitamins do not absorb properly. A good way to supplement is transdermally. Massage lugol’s iodine into your skin, especially where it is thinner like the inner arms or thigh. Some people may be sensitive to applying Iodine neat, so you may mix it with a carrier oil like castor oil. Iodine is important for women’s breast health. If there are cysts or fibroids, massage lugol’s iodine into the spot where breast tissue is imbalanced.
